Roll Down The Curtains : A Little Things In Life Series

Episode 1 : A 'Big Child' Audition, A Substitution, A Theater and just more...

 I wanted to do this series because this is actually related to my theater stage story I told my cousin brother and I thought that it would actually be a nice idea to add a 5-6 part series for this season. I can't assure if this would be enjoyable for you and if you would get disappointed. So lets get started...

I've been to different to school in different parts of India because my father gets lot of transfer, so this is one from this Christian School I used to study at. They had annual functions during Christmas Time which actually mixed a lot of things together so there were sub-division among classes. As we were in, I don't know, KG or 1st Grade we didn't have much work so we spent our time more in theater stage than actually in the class. I looked at it again and I found that we were actually planning this function for 8 months at the time, yeah, so 8 months in theater, not in classes. So it all started when I was entering after my 3rd month in the school gate and entered the class. One of my friend came out of the Headmistress office taking some toffees from her and asked me "So you heard?" I was like "What?"and he told me that there were the Annual Function going on and everyone's taking their part in it. I never knew about 

such a thing because I wasn't really accustomed to it. I could see costumes being taken from here to there and props were deposited from the trucks it looked pretty confusing to me but I thought it would be some function so I wondered it would be a fun activity to do. I went to the class and dropped my bag and sat there wandering, 'What will it be?'. The teacher came and made us stand towards a wall. " You will have 4 different functions this whole year,"mam uttered,"Small groups will be divided from every class to one function, we will have one half year assembly and one at the end of the year and you shall be assessed at one of them in a short while so be ready for notebook submission." We were all really happy because we would have breaks and free time, I don't know why was it enjoyable for me I wasn't having a grudge against study but wasn't even fond of it. 

The Pick Up

We were just doing our work when one of the dance teacher came with a clipboard in her hand, she said ' Okay whoever's name comes in this will stay here and others will go in the following ones :- 'The All is Equal' Play, 'The Story of Animals' Play and 'The Life of Family' Play. If your name doesn't come in either of the 4 plays, you will be held in substitution until we fix your name in either one." I didn't really knew what either of these meant but I really wanted to be the part of the family because, that's the only word I properly knew (I was a child! Don't Judge Me). Names were being taken and they were going outside of class and I was impatiently waiting for my to come, but Alas! I wasn't at the point selected for one of them. 'You shall wait for the substitution, remaining of the 5 shall follow me upstairs' So us 5 who were not yet selected went upstairs to class 7th 'E' or 'D', I don't really remember it was all a blurry image, and we sat there....

Substitution Room 1

So like I said we were sitting in 7th class, just keep it that way, and the maths teacher was present and even though at 8th grade I don't feel big but as a 1st grader, 7th grader were practically looking adults to me. So we  were made sit on the floor because every arrangement was made at a sudden notice so there wasn't a seat arrangement as well. We were quietly sitting there seeing what was the teacher writing on the board and we all saw a number '-2' written on it. At first it looked like the teacher wrote the number wrong, although, 6 years later we realised it was 'Integers'. So my friend, whose name I'll take as SAM, won't disclose the real one( trust me, he will be important for future episodes) told Mam with a proud feeling that YOU WROTE 2 AS -2 WHICH IS WRONG, so mam patiently told us 'Son, you will learn about it in a few years' but SAM got impatient and argued why was this even a number.

She actually tried to explain us what is Integers! But SAM and I couldn't understand any on it because we weren't IQ students. At last she shouted like hell, contacted the substitute teacher and told her to take these 5 students to some other room. As we were going, SAM said "I was just trying to impress everyone!"

Substitution Room 2

So we were made to sit in a floor where we saw 9th graders dancing, playing music, acting and all that. I can't say much about what happened here just that the sir present there asked this child to stand up and dance for a moment, so when he did a flip kick he ripped he is pants in front and we could just see his undies. I was impatient to know in which play would I qualify and at last I changed my mind to equal ones because it was a know second word and I wanted to try it. At last the teacher took us to the theater to give us the selection for the play.

Theater Pick Up

So at last we went upstairs to a giant gate which the teacher opened for us and when she opened it, this was what we saw, and remind you as a 1st grader that was a great scene for us 

It was as colourful and bright as though the angles have designed it themselves was my reaction. 'Take a good look at it boys, this will be YOUR STAGE!' was our mams words. She left us there so that we will get our names registered. So a mam came and took a clipboard where she started taking names. 'Where do you want to be?' SAM asked. "Equal one, you' I uttered.'Family', he said. So all names were taken and SAM did get the family one, he said, 'See me in the stage, OKAY!'. At last my name was taken, I was squeaking, what will it be "The All is Equal' Play or 'The Story of  Animals'? At last the answer I got gave me a huge shock.

Alas, that is a suspense for the next Episode, The English Show-Off, New Girl and The Music Room, and more. Next Episode shall be posted on 12th November.
